Over the weekend, our 11u Chiefs took 1st place in the Sandlot Slugfest hosted by the The Sandlots of Salem. Congrats to Antioch Junior Sequoits 11U on a tough championship game and first class group of Coaches and Ballplayers. For the record, we are still down 1 game to you guys🤣😉. Winning was NOT the highlight of the tournament... The highlight was watching 9 individuals become a baseball team and watching that team play good baseball. This is 2 years in the making of fall practices, over 45-3 hour winter instructional sessions, team building, leadership training, 1 long summer and 11 year olds learning to trust & play for each other. Sunday was about 1 Chief thinking about the other 8 before thinking about himself✅. Proud of you Chiefs. Chiefs are having fun and learning, every single day/game...Why are we here, of course we want to compete and get a W...What’s higher on the priority list then W’s and trophies? How about learning the game, performing in the game, learning how to deal with this game that will eat your soul if you let it...? I truly believe this generation of kids internalize, worry and stress more so then any other generation. This is why the mental/successes/failures aspect has to be addressed, regularly. What kid wants to keep coming back to the yard, if they’re carrying the burden of yesterday’s failures. Don’t ride the “highs”. Don’t ride the “lows”.
